Funds are being used to implement an innovative, three-pathway behavioral health workforce training program designed to address critical provider shortages across West Virginia. This investment supports an eight-month training model for psychiatric nurse practitioner students, graduate counseling and social work students, and peer recovery specialists, equipping them with advanced skills in integrated care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Resources fund intensive clinical rotations, training in evidence-based therapies and emerging treatment approaches, supervision, and career advancement opportunities for peer specialists. Through academic partnerships and integrated clinical experience, the initiative strengthens workforce competency, increases employment retention, and builds sustainable capacity to expand access to behavioral health care statewide.
