WVFF Opens Applications for $19.2 Million Momentum Initiative Grant WVFF Media September 22, 2025

WEST VIRGINIA (September 22, 2025) – The West Virginia First Foundation (WVFF) has officially opened the application portal for the Momentum Initiative Grant (MIG), a $19.2 million funding opportunity to prevent substance use disorder, support recovery, and save lives across the state.

Applications must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. (noon) EST on Friday, October 10, 2025. This deadline differs from the previous cycle, which closed at midnight, to ensure WVFF staff are available to support applicants throughout the submission process.

Funding, as outlined in the Request for Applications released earlier this month, will be distributed across five target areas:

  • Foster Care & Non-Parental Caregivers ($3.9M): Programs with statewide reach serving foster youth and kinship caregivers.
  • Youth Prevention ($4.0M): Secondary prevention for at-risk youth, including those with high ACE scores, incarcerated parents, exposure to abuse, or foster care placement.
  • Recovery Housing ($3.8M): Expansion of certified recovery residences to strengthen long-term recovery housing capacity across West Virginia.
  • Behavioral Health & Workforce Development ($3.75M): Building long-term behavioral health capacity through workforce development initiatives.
  • Day Report Centers & Reentry Programs ($3.75M): Strengthening services for court-ordered and post-incarceration populations to improve reentry success and reduce recidivism.

WVFF’s website, wvfirst.org/mig, serves as the central hub for resources, including: Grant Portal login, the Request for Applications (RFA), eligibility details, FAQs, required budget template, and a video tutorial guiding applicants through the new grant portal.
