WVFF Board Approves Funding for Jacob’s Ladder Through Direct Funding Model WVFF Media January 6, 2026

WEST VIRGINIA (January 6, 2026) – The West Virginia First Foundation (WVFF) Board of Directors has approved funding for Jacob’s Ladder following a rigorous Direct Funding Model application and review process.

Jacob’s Ladder, located in Aurora, West Virginia, operates a nationally recognized six-month residential recovery program built on therapy, farming, the arts, outdoor engagement, and Twelve Step programming. Since its founding in 2016, the organization has achieved a two-year recovery success rate, well above national benchmarks, and has expanded services to include outpatient programming and recovery residences.

WVFF approved $1,000,000 in funding to support Jacob’s Ladder’s continued growth and sustainability. As part of the Foundation’s commitment to accountability and stewardship, the investment includes clear performance and operational requirements. These include securing West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences (WVARR) certification for the organization’s recovery residence prior to the release of funds, as well as meeting defined benchmarks related to capacity expansion, infrastructure improvements, and strengthened financial operations.

“This approval follows extensive due diligence, a process that began in 2024, including multiple site visits and in-depth assessment by our Board,” said WVFF Executive Director Jonathan Board. “Jacob’s Ladder has demonstrated a strong, consistent track record of helping West Virginians achieve long-term recovery. This investment will expand their impact and strengthen their ability to serve more individuals across our state.”

Dr. Kevin Blankenship, Founder of Jacob’s Ladder, expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s support. “We are deeply grateful to the West Virginia First Foundation for believing in our mission,” said Dr. Blankenship. “This partnership will allow us to enhance our services, expand our reach, and continue offering the kind of long-term, holistic care that changes lives. We look forward to the work ahead.”

The decision marks the culmination of WVFF’s comprehensive evaluation process for Opportunity Considerations submitted through the Direct Funding Model, a pathway designed for high-impact projects that advance the Foundation’s mission to prevent substance use disorder, support recovery, and save lives.
