Award Summary:
Funds are being used to implement Westbrook Health Services’ Workforce Development Project, strengthening the behavioral health workforce across its eight-county rural service area. This investment supports a structured pathway for recruiting, training, and retaining professionals through paid internships, living stipends, apprenticeships, and certification opportunities. Resources provide supervised field experiences, academic partnerships, and mentorship for master’s- and bachelor’s-level students and Peer Recovery Support Specialist apprentices, including individuals in recovery. By building a locally anchored training pipeline and offering incentives to attract and retain candidates, the initiative reduces provider shortages, improves access to care, and creates a sustainable workforce model for rural communities.
