Award Summary:
Funds are being used to expand early, evidence-based prevention and mental health supports for middle school youth in Regions 4 and 5. This investment supports the expansion of Libera Model Groups to serve 125 middle school girls, strengthening peer support, mentoring, and protective factors before opioid misuse begins. Resources provide individual therapy from licensed clinicians for youth with higher needs, along with mental health resource tote bags that extend learning and coping skills into the home. The initiative also funds training for new community mentors and suicide prevention certification for local partners, while supporting monthly prevention activities that build mental wellness, life skills, and social connection. By addressing underlying trauma, barriers, and unmet mental health needs, the program works to reduce risk and promote healthier futures for West Virginia youth.
