Award Summary:
Funds are being used to engage ten college campuses across Regions 1, 4, and 6 in a workforce-focused behavioral health initiative that prepares undergraduate students for careers in prevention, treatment, and recovery services. This investment supports the recruitment, training, and supervision of paid student Behavioral Health Assistants majoring in psychology, social work, and related fields. Resources fund hands-on experience in campus and community mental health interventions, peer outreach, and behavioral health workforce awareness activities, while guiding students through individualized work plans that encourage completion of relevant degrees or certifications. Delivered through partnerships with higher education institutions and statewide behavioral health organizations, the initiative builds a sustainable pipeline that strengthens the workforce and supports healthier communities across West Virginia.
