Award Summary:
Funds are being used to expand YWCA Wheeling’s prevention programming across Ohio, Marshall, and Wetzel County schools, strengthening youth resilience and reducing risk factors associated with substance misuse. This investment supports the introduction of nationally recognized, evidence-based curricula that build healthy relationship skills, decision-making, and refusal strategies within middle and high school settings. Resources also sustain targeted small-group supports for higher-risk youth, peer-led prevention through trained Teen Advocates, and culturally responsive programming that addresses underlying stressors. By extending prevention beyond the classroom through enrichment opportunities such as residential STEM-focused programming, the initiative delivers a comprehensive, multi-layered prevention approach tailored to the needs of Northern Panhandle youth.
