WEST VIRGINIA (April 23, 2025) – West Virginia First Foundation (WVFF) is encouraging all West Virginians to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26, from 10 AM – 2 PM at locations across the state, in support of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement’s efforts.
Since its start, Take Back Day has helped safely collect and dispose of over 19 million pounds of unused, unwanted, or expired medications nationwide — helping prevent substance misuse and keeping communities safer.
“This is one of the simplest ways we can all contribute to a safer, healthier West Virginia,” said Jonathan Board, WVFF Executive Director. “Most of us have unused or expired medications sitting in our homes and Take Back Day is a valuable reminder to safely dispose of them. It’s easy, free, and makes a meaningful difference.”
Take Back Day is free and anonymous, with convenient drop-off sites across the state. Accepted items include tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription medications. Liquids, such as cough syrup, should be sealed tightly in their original containers. Please note that collection sites cannot accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs.
