About Us:
The West Virginia First Foundation (WVFF) is a nonprofit organization established to address the opioid crisis and its lasting impact across the state. Created under the terms of the West Virginia First Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), WVFF was designed to receive and distribute opioid settlement funds. Guided by the principles outlined in the MOU, the Foundation operates as a private 501(c)(3) entity to support prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction efforts. Through strategic funding and community collaboration, WVFF is committed to creating sustainable solutions that improve the health and well-being of all West Virginians.
Job Summary:
The West Virginia First Foundation seeks a passionate and strategic Chief Development Officer to join our team. This position plays a vital role in maximizing our impact on the fight against the opioid crisis. The Chief Development Officer will be responsible for developing and managing our grantmaking strategies, cultivating donor relationships, and ensuring the efficient and effective use of our resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive grantmaking strategy aligned with the Foundation’s mission and priorities.
- Cultivate relationships with existing and potential donors, building trust and understanding of the Foundation’s work.
- Oversee the stewardship of donor gifts, ensuring compliance with grant terms and reporting requirements.
- Analyze data and track the impact of grants, measuring progress towards the Foundation’s goals.
- Manage and grow the Foundation’s endowment and other sources of funding.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Foundation staff to ensure strategic alignment.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders invested in addressing Substance Use Disorders and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery.
- Oversee administrative functions including budget management and reporting.
- Champion the Foundation’s mission through presentations and outreach activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Philanthropy, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in development or a related field within the nonprofit sector.
- Strong understanding of development and grantmaking principles, practices, and trends in NPO, Healthcare, and state and federal spaces.
- Proven ability to develop and manage a grantmaking budget.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
- Experience in donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and track program outcomes.
- Passion for the mission of the West Virginia First Foundation and a commitment to social impact.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software.
