Award Summary:
Funds are being used to expand evidence-based and evidence-informed prevention programming for middle and high school youth across seven after-school sites in Lincoln, Logan, and Kanawha Counties. This investment supports targeted secondary prevention services for students at highest risk, including individualized mentoring, prevention education delivered during and after school, and dedicated prevention specialist support. Resources also strengthen academic and protective-factor supports through extended tutoring, STREAM enrichment, daily suppers and snacks, and college and career readiness activities. Guided by components of the Icelandic Model of Adolescent Substance Use Prevention, the initiative reinforces family engagement and parental involvement, positive peer relationships, school connection, and increased participation in structured activities, reducing risk factors associated with substance misuse.
