Award Summary:
Funds are being used to implement the CHAMPS workforce development program, expanding the behavioral health and community health workforce across Regions 5 and 6 in Southern West Virginia. This investment supports the training and deployment of 65 community health workers and peer recovery specialists each year through a structured, six-week certification program that includes core competencies, job readiness coaching, and soft skills development. Resources provide participant stipends, wraparound supports to address employment barriers, and connections to job placement opportunities with regional health and social service providers. By combining training, hands-on community outreach, and employer partnerships, the initiative strengthens behavioral health capacity, creates new employment pathways, and builds a sustainable workforce to support recovery and community health across the region.
