Award Summary:
Funds are being used to expand the Fostering Futures Forward program in the Eastern Panhandle, strengthening secondary prevention services for children and youth who have experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma. This investment supports evidence-based programming and consistent mentoring that builds resilience, improves decision-making, and reduces the risk of future substance misuse among one of the state’s highest-risk populations. Resources enable the addition of a dedicated prevention track for children ages 8 to 13, focused on developing protective factors during a critical developmental stage, while deepening after-school enrichment and career readiness activities for youth ages 14 to 18. Delivered through trauma-informed care and coordinated partnerships with schools and community agencies, the program advances substance-free pathways and long-term stability for vulnerable youth.
