Award Summary:

Funds are being used to expand the Marshall University Behavioral Health Workforce Development Program, strengthening the pipeline of professionals serving high-need communities across West Virginia, with a focus on Region 5. This investment builds on the successful School-Based Mental Health Scholars model by adding new training pathways for integrated behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment settings. Resources provide tuition assistance, stipends for books, travel, and technology, as well as continuing education for current professionals to support retention and systems change. By preparing graduate students to serve in rural, high-need areas and incorporating training on Appalachian-specific risk and protective factors, the initiative strengthens workforce stability, expands access to care, and builds a trauma-informed behavioral health system across the region.
